Crafting a Greener Future: PFT Traps and How We’re Making a Difference with Bunnings’ Support

At Pest Free Token (PFT), we’re not just creating a predator free future for New Zealand’s native wildlife—we’re doing it with care, sustainability, and a focus on quality craftsmanship. Our traps are designed to be a simple yet effective solution for backyard pest control, built with locally sourced materials to support the community and reduce our environmental footprint.

Two Traps, Handcrafted for Maximum Impact

Each PFT wooden trap is meticulously handcrafted by our Trustees, ensuring durability and functionality. These wooden boxes house a Victor Professional rat trap, which is well-known for its durability and effectiveness. PFT rat traps are designed to be safe for pets and children, thanks to the trap mechanism’s placement inside a long wooden tunnel.

Flipping Timmy traps complement PFT wooden traps by expanding target species to possums. Flipping Timmys are made locally by Wellington company Envirotools and provide an excellent options to those wanting to get serious about pest eradication.

Our traps are a great addition to any backyard, especially for kiwis wanting to do their part to protect New Zealand’s native species.

A Special Thanks to Bunnings

We couldn’t have made this project a reality without the generous support of our partners, especially Bunnings Warehouse. Their donation of a significant quantity of materials has played a pivotal role in the production of our wooden traps. By sourcing materials locally, we are not only reducing costs but also contributing to New Zealand’s economy while keeping our environmental footprint low.

With the help of Bunnings, we’ve been able to create more traps at a larger scale, ensuring that funds raised go directly to pest eradication and wildlife protection, with every penny of profit donated to our mission.

The Right Trap for the Job

Whether you’re targeting small or big pests, we have the trap for you and your backyard.

PFT wooden traps are an excellent choice for anyone looking to get started or wanting to focus on smaller species, such as rats and mice. They are affordable, effective, and easy to use. Whether you’re a first-time trapper or an experienced pest controller, the PFT trap gets the job done. For those concerned, we’ve designed a longer tunnel that ensures your traps are safe from inquisitive birds, pets, and children.

Flipping Timmy traps are the best and most proven possum trap on the market, taking the proven mechanical system of a Timms trap and optimising it with sturdier components. Feel confident dealing with your possum problem with this user-friendly, safe, and effective trap designed for all ages and capabilities. And you don’t even need to touch the catch!

How to Use Your PFT Trap

If you’re ready to make a difference in your own backyard, here are a few tips to get started:

  • Set up a few traps in your backyard, placing them in different locations.
  • Bait your traps with a generous amount of peanut butter and refresh the bait regularly.
  • Check your traps every couple of days, particularly when you first set them up, to monitor results. Once you see fewer catches, you can start checking every 2-3 weeks.
  • Place your tunnels on flat surfaces near walls or compost heaps, where rats and mice are most likely to travel.

Our Youtube channel has several to help you operate and maintain your own trap in a safe and effective manner.

Protecting Our Wildlife, One Trap at a Time

It’s not just about catching pests—it’s about creating a safer environment for native birds and other wildlife, such as geckos. With New Zealand’s native wildlife making a return to urban areas, backyard trapping is an essential tool in keeping them safe from introduced predators like rats, mice, and possums. By using our PFT traps, you’re contributing to the wider effort of pest eradication and helping to protect New Zealand’s unique species.

Why Backyard Trapping Matters
